A Splice closure is a weatherproof encasement, commonly made of tough plastic, that envelops the exposed area between spliced cables whereby the jackets have been removed to expose the individual transmission media, optical or metallic, to be joined. The closure usually contains some device or means to maintain continuity of the tensile strength members of the cables involved, and also may maintain electrical continuity of metallic armor, and/or provide external connectivity to such armor for electrical grounding.
A. Heat shrinkable closures
(For copper networks, pressurized and non-pressurized, used in buried, manhole, and aerial applications - for primary and secondary networks)
Heat shrinkable closures are used in communication cable networks, particularly in the distribution network, as inline closures for protecting and sealing the splice areas of copper cables. They can be used on cut and uncut cables for straight and branch splices.
HitekNOFAL delivers heat shrinkable closures that bear witness to the most advanced techniques. Manufactured in different shapes and sizes according to cable cross-section diameter and number of pairs, our heat shrinkable closures are easy to install. In addition, we ensure the highest level of protective covering for the splice area.
Features:
• High mechanical strength
• Reliable sealing of the splice and the sleeve on the cable sheath (for protection against moisture)
• Simple installation
• In service in pressurized and non-pressurized networks
• No harmful substances used
• Designed for at least 30 years lifetime
• No ingress of water into the homogeneous composite material
• No cable strangulation (due to regulated shrink force of the sleeve)
• No overheating of cable conductors (due to reduced heat during the shrinking process)
Our global partner, Corning's heat-shrink closures meet all network requirements, from the standard closure SCX and GSC closures that have reinforced sleeves to heat shrink closures for pressurized networks. Repair closures for the different requirements are also available.
Heat shrinkable end caps
We deliver heat shrinkable end caps that are compatible with the most commonly used cable types.
B. Mechanical closures
(For copper and fiber optic networks, pressurized and non-pressurized, used in buried, manhole, and aerial applications - for primary and secondary networks)
We offer a complete range of mechanical closures for all applications in the copper and fiber telecommunication network. Corning's mechanical copper closures are now in almost every telecom's network; they provide flawless mechanical and electrical continuity as if there had been no break in the cable.
The core product of this range is the Universal Closure, the most widely used mechanical closure in the world. The Universal Closure consists in an inline closure with incoming cable(s) on one side and outgoing cable(s) on the other side (straight joint). The other type of mechanical closure is the dome closure (butt closure) that features incoming and outgoing cables on the same side.
Mechanical closures
UCN Inline Closure for medium and high copper pairs
UCNV Inline vault Closure to switch from Outdoor to Indoor cable
UCA Inline Closure for low copper pairs
BPR Inline Distribution Closure for low copper pairs
-Vault closures
Another special application of the Universal Closure is the vault closure, which is used in exchange offices for the connection of the trunk cable to distribution cables that are to be terminated on the MDF.
-Aerial closures
The free-breathing aerial closure is designed as a straight or branching closure on aerial cables. It can be used on cut and/or uncut cable types to protect against climatic influences, particularly in tropical countries, and to prevent humidity concentration.
-Pre-terminated fiber optic mechanical closures
(Best fit for FTTx applications)
All mechanical, vault and pre-terminated fiber optic mechanical closures are suitable for buried, manhole, and aerial applications (available in inline/canister (dome) designs – for primary and secondary networks)
Features:
• Access to splice area as often as required
• High-quality sealing material guaranteeing watertight encapsulation of the splice area
• Closure housings made of durable material
• Easy and fast installation, without additional energy e.g. gas or electricity
• Re-opening and re-closing of the closure very simple to handle, without the need
of special tools
• Reliable strain relief systems integrated in end caps
• In service in pressurized and non-pressurized networks
• No harmful substances used
• Designed for at least 30 years lifetime
• Possibility to either adapt the cable entries on site (by drilling the end caps,
according to number of cables and their diameter) or to feature
pre-fabricated cable entries
• Large variety for all cable types, splice configurations, and connectors
• No outside metal parts (to eliminate the danger of corrosion)
