FTTX is a broadband telecommunications system based on fiber-optic cables and associated optical electronics for delivery of multiple advanced services, such as of voice, data & video across one link (triple play) all the way to the home or business.
Fiber to the Premises (FTTP) is a form of fiber-optic communication in which an optical fiber is run directly onto the customer’s premises. This contrasts with other fiber optic communication delivery strategies such as fiber to the node (FTTN), fiber to the curb (FTTC) that all depend upon more traditional methods such as copper wires or coaxial cable for ‘last mile’ delivery.
As FTTP can be categorized according to where the optical fiber ends, in Fiber to the Home (FTTH) the optical signal reaches the end user’s living or office space. Contrarily, Fiber to the Building (FTTB) is a form of fiber optic communication delivery whereby the optical signal reaches the premises but stops short of the end user’s living or office space.

Why Fiber Optic?
* Fiber infrastructure offers availability, scalability, and almost unlimited bandwidth that makes FTTH deployment truly cost-efficient.
* Passive fiber links do not deteriorate in the field, lasting therefore indefinitely unless they are cut or removed.
* Ideal for service providers and telecommunications carriers, FTTX infrastructure is a long-term service solution enabling them to provide existing and forthcoming B2B and B2C services, and thus generate new sales leads.
* Prices for fiber optic cable and transceivers have dropped significantly; currently, the difference between a Fiber Infrastructure and its copper counterpart does not exceed approx. 10 %, and it is expected to soon disappear. Modular installations with less technical workmanship requirements will soon make the Fiber Infrastructure cheaper
